My Bachmann Spectrum N&W class J steam locomotive 610 in HO scale, with a Tsunami sound decoder I installed myself. The 4 coaches belong to a different owner, and I borrowed them amongst the rolling stock that was readily available on the layout. The low whistle is Frisco 1522's Hancock 3 chime; the alternate high one is an SP 6. Each of the coaches are lit on the inside. I planned on pulling more cars for this vid, but my engine had a traction problem (which has since been fixed). And I never could get the front headlight working in time to use in this video.

  • I'm taking into consideration you never adjusted any of the CV's or Speed tables/ EMF motor control settings... Seems a bit jumpy, Other wise nice model. I still have fiddling around to do with my RS-1, Need a smaller speaker...

  • @mountainlova1009 Actually, I did mess around with the CV's a bit, (hence the alternate SP whistle and incresed bell ring rate) I just like having no momentum on my engine because I feel like I have better control over my train. Sometimes I run w/lots of other people on the same tracks when we have open houses, and I may need to stop/get going quickly if there's an emergency. Or in this case, I'm just in a hurry to have my engine running so I can record it on video!

  • 844SteamTrain, you could say the era is before 1954 & your engine was not required to have its headlight lit during the daytime in good weather!

  • I have that same loco..But I have all the coaches that it should have.. I found them at a model RailRoad convention that was in louisville several years ago.. I wish the J's were still running!

  • We're just like vettebecker (but 11 months later). We have the Bachmann J611 that had no sound out of the box and would love to add it. Did you add it or did you buy it with the sound already in? Really nice layout ideas, too. Thanks for posting.

  • I think mine is just steam not sound

  • I have this 610 train still in package from the 80's. Does anyone know how much it's worth? thanks

  • IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS NICE WHY DIDNT THAY PUT A HEADLIGHT IN?

  • Is that the sound unit that came with the loco? I have a new spectrum J 611 without sound, but would love to add it. Nice layout and ideas, I've just started on my sons layout. When finished it will make three complete loops on a 21 ft. x 8 ft. area.

  • hi this is Dylan Palombo from the U.S.A I just want to say nice layout and nice Norfolk and Western steamer. I love that locomotive. I have a little N scale model of it

  • Does SP 6 stand for Southern Pacific 6 chime? If so I know what one sounds like, and it doesn't sound like that.
