Internet Blacklist Bill: Is It Hype or Anti-American Censorship?

http://sitefling.com - So the gov passed a bill saying they can censor websites. People are freaking out and telling people it might shut down Facebook and Youtube and Google. Here's my thoughts on the issue.

QUESTION: Do you want 100% free speech and no rules? Or do you want some level of enforcement?

The government already has the ability to shut down sites using the Patriot Act. The dept of Homeland Security has already taken down some sites for Copyright Infringement (just look at atdhe.net for example) so they are already able to do so.

The Internet has been a self regulated space for a long time, and yes, there are some people out there who are maliciously preying on the your, the weak and the elderly. But the authorities already have power, but we should not give them too much power.

Are you serious that some of your subscribers think that this bill is to shut down YouTube FaceBook and ... and ... and.. Google!? No way! Like you said, Google can't be shut down... coz they're, "Too Big To Fail". No, this bill is the opposite which is to shut down the sites of the little people.

But the thing is this bill gives the power to shut down entire sites, because of what one person uploads. So what's to say they wouldn't? To post a video of your kid blowing out the candles on his birthday, and if someone is singling the birhtday song, you would be a felon.

this bill has nothing to do with free speach, it's all about copie right. futher more all the site who would have such material would be black listed and closed. this bill is a vicious piwer play by the corporation to regain controle. and you don't believe corporation would use this to sue us, they little gurls and children they don't care. ps they are barely any criminals on the internet, do you think the 16 year old kid that upload his game playthrought is a criminal this bill makes him

In my opinion, giving the government the power to censor is going to put in place something that can hurt us if the wrong regime gets into office. Better to allow the Internet to police itself, and let the government crack down on Copyright infringement using their present methods (look at how fast they can shut down a Super Bowl broadcast when they want to...)
