if something has already been researched then, then that information can be used to further other research instead of spinning your wheels in circles, the same goes for programming
I've become very skeptical that there is any progress.
As I see it, the real issue is not secret stashes of information but guarded and enforced lies and misinformation. I can't see a solution short of direct confrontation with corruption. Open forums and common grounds are unfortunately, like fishing in a barrel for these big firms, they leave the fish they want and poach the others.
Tough call here. On one hand, most of research/science these days is funded by private corporations or government grants. Either way, in the end the entity funding the research would like some return on its investment. There aren't that many persons, corporations or governments that would simply share their new knowledge with the world for free. And, there is a pretty good argument that competitive capitalist scientific development is the most efficient way to produce results. Excellent B.
