The rioting field of wheat,
Dancing in the moonlight;
The hungry man that eats,
The grain out of his hand;
The thunder of mice,
Vanquishing the dead;
All this in a moment,
I saw you go wearily along.

Your alabaster body,
Your rattling eyes,
I see them moving in the dark,
Your smile and beauty have never been drawn;
Let me hold my hand out to you,
It's become as cold these days,
As the season you came from.

Play us some songs of your youth,
Those two, long years ago;
Your body after all is like an ancient glacier,
That slips into the hot bath of my night.

And then you speak,
From your wriggling spirit,
My consciousness marooned by your eyes,
I can't remember what you said-
I wasn't really listening,
I felt myself journeying into dust.

  • "Your body after all is like an ancient glacier,

    Just now and then you strike a personal chord - well, here is my last relationship in a couplet.

  • wonderful

  • @tinySpectacle Thank you so much for the kind words! It's nice to know when a third party points out exactly the parts you, yourself, thought were best along with one's own inner critic.

  • Like the profile shot delivery. And the poem is pretty damn good too (featured on my page).... :P
