@j0nnyism yeah because films like 2001: space odyssey made so much sense while watching it... as if kubrick had not made films with absurd rules. incidentally, inception does not have unimaginative rules because the idea is not "real vs dream" but "caring about reality vs escaping into a safe, comfortable but unreal dreamworld".
I like Inception well enough, but I think critics have a tendency to go crazy over any blockbuster slightly more intelligent than Transformers. Mark makes Inception sound like it's Bergman or something.
making unimaginitive absursd rules and apply them to our dreams then overcomplicate them and then convolute them and you have the stodgy storyline to this film
I hate using the word overrated and somehow suggesting that because I don't like it, people are somehow misjudged. I also don't want to be rude. But that movie fucking sucked and is overrated and you're all wrong.
@IceCreamSuit Not a particularly big criticism, I enjoyed the movie, I appreciate the effort and creativity that went into it and I think it deserves praise for daring to be unique as a major studio blockbuster but it's not the trailblazing masterpiece a decent number of people see it as.
@Cunobelinus54 Never on this scale. I don't know what you would find satisfying or original. Is that supposed to be a serious criticism of the film itself?
Inception is definitely a step above the average big-budget blockbuster but I certainly wouldn't say it's anything particularly complex or intelligent. I think it's a bit annoying how a lot of people who aren't that cinema-savvy will look at Inception and think it's whole "dream-within-a-dream" concept is something original, when really it's been done before for decades in cinema.

@thedroogfulable The most metaphorical-minded movie. Literal-minded and unimaginative is the opposite to that.

I love Nolan, but he reminds me of Harry Enfield's 'Tim nice but dim' character.
