Barbara Higbie

Lyrics; I think:

Lullay lullow, lullay lully,
Beway bewy, lullay lullow,
Lullay lully,
Baw me bairne, sleep softly now.

I saw a sweet and seemly sight,
A blissful burd, a blossom bright,
That morning made and mirth among.

Lullay lullow, lullay lully,
Beway bewy, lullay lullow,
Lullay lully,
Baw me bairne, sleep softly now.

A maiden mother, meek and mild,
In cradle keep, a knavë child,
That softly sleep; she sat and sang.

Baw me bairne, sleep softly now.

Lullay lullow, lullay lully,
Beway bewy, lullay lullow,
Lullay lully,
Baw me bairne, sleep softly now.

  • I adore this song. I would love to get a copy of the lyrics.

  • I updated the info section, there is a 500 character limit here.

See I Saw a Swete Semly Syght, it is probably the way it was originally performed.

  • My son (8) wanted to sleep with me tonight. I found this song again. Playing it now and watching him sleep.

    Perfect.

  • This one gives me chills, every time.

  • Muito bom fantástico, parece anjos cantando. Um abraço pra ti. Té mais.

  • @hubbahubbahey I have light guage, 11-54, but I find it's more how the intonation is set up... another guitar I have, a 12 string, has ultralights but it will tune a whole step; yet another, a Martin w/ light guage strings, will only go a half step..most Taylors will drop a whole step..John Sebastian has a guitar he drops TWO whole steps...he uses heavy guage 14-72, but I wouldn't risk an of my guitars with heavy guage strings; they frequently will tear it apart

  • @luxaurum what string gauges are you using?

I can drop down almost an entire octave with a Baby Taylor. The short scale length, 22 inches if remember correctly, really should have a higher gauge string; it feels normal that way. Light strings feel way too light and lack good tone.

  • @hubbahubbahey Over the past year I got a guitar that would tune a whole step down and still play in tune ... I found that doing this and playing it in D (comes out in C pitch) works best... drop the bottom string a whole step further ("Drop D tuning") for an extra bass note on the tonic chord...

  • Beautiful song, beautiful voice of Barbara Higbie. Thank you for posting this.

  • I play it in A; I figured it out from memory rather than the recording. I don't sing so I play the melody within the chords; A, G and D.

If you capo the third fret and play the A chord form, it is actually a C, it will match the recording.

    Any corrections are welcome.

  • @hubbahubbahey Yes, I'm doing the same now....from your recording... though the key of C might be hard for me since I'm a tenor (male) though it sounds great in that key ... I might have to lower it to A and capo it up...are you capoing the guitar from there or playing it straight, or downtuned a whole step from D?

  • beautiful song

  • Thanks for the lyrics...I really appreciate it.
