LI News Tonight Series- Chris Collora reports on Long Island's Gold Coast Era Mansions and how the public can still access them to experience a sense of what it was like to live in a mansion from the early 20th Century.
Part 4 looks at Templeton (DeSeversky Center) in Old Westbury. Originally named White Eagle, it was built as the home of Alfred DuPont. It was later sold to Henry Phipps as a gift for his daugher Amy Phipps-Guest. The Guest family lived in the mansion from 1921 until 1973 when the mansion was sold to the New York Institute of Technology with the help of Alexandar DeSeversky. The mansion is used by the college for offices and classes. Some parts are still open to the public to rent out as a catering venue for events, so Long Islanders can still experience the types of parties once common during the Roaring 1920's on Long Island's Gold Coast.
