"Genius Of Love" is a 1981 song by Tom Tom Club from their eponymous debut album, "Tom Tom Club". Although the album had not been released in North America, over a hundred thousand copies of the single sold there as imports from Island Records UK, at which point Sire Records made a deal to release the single and the album in North America in late 1981. "Genius Of Love" was a huge hit, peaking at #31 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, all the way to #2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and #1 on the Hot Dance/Club Play chart, soon earning the "Tom Tom Club" LP a Gold Sales Award in 1982. The song is one of the most sampled rhythm tracks of all time, particularly within the rap/R&B/hip-hop genre, with dozens of unsolicited remixes and versions, by artists such as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Mariah Carey, Mark Morrison, The X-Ecutioners, Public Enemy, Redman, Cam'Ron, 2Pac, Busta Rhymes, P.M. Dawn, 50 Cent, Dream Warriors, and T.I., just to name a few. Tom Tom Club is an American new wave band founded in 1981 by husband and wife team Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, both also known for being bandmembers of the group Talking Heads. Originally established as a side project from Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club comprised a loose aggregation of musicians, sound engineers and artists of the Compass Point All Stars family, including Tina Weymouth's sisters and guitarist Adrian Belew, the latter of whom toured with Weymouth and Frantz in the expanded version of Talking Heads in 1980 and 1981. Named after the dancehall in the Bahamas where they rehearsed for the first time while on hiatus from Talking Heads in 1980, Tom Tom Club enjoyed early success in the dance club culture of the early 1980s. • I loved this song when this song first came out when I heard the first lyric.. " What are you going to do when you get out of jail? I'm going to have some fun " . I of course was in jail at the time and thinking of my release and the fun that I'll have. And I did and land ed back in jail. Ahh, my misguided youth.
