Everyone says to turn off SSID but when I did that, I not only had to keep typing in my SSID name but also the 63 digit pass phrase I have. That's a pain in the ass.

You can leave the SSID on (hiding it isn't really an effective security measure). Change your encryption level to WPA2 from WEP to eliminate a long key.

do you know how to hide the Router? i know on linksys you can have the wifi connection hidden...is there any way you can do that to NetGear?

Yep.. Goto Advaned-->Wireless Settings. Ucheck the Enable SSID Broadcast box. That will hide your router so you'll have to type in the SSID to connect when first setting up the connection.
