A fight broke out at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem on Wednesday after rival groups of Orthodox and Armenian clerics clashed over the boundaries of their jurisdictions inside the church.

Police armed with batons and shields stormed the church to restore order during the preparations for Orthodox Christmas celebrations.

  • @infinity730 Thanks for the correction.

  • @555pontifex "scientists like Einstein who believed in an intelligent first cause" Wrong, Einstein was a Spinozian Pantheist, and never said anything about a "first cause". He believed that the universe itself is god, and that this "god" reveals itself with our understanding of nature through the scientific method.

  • i couldn't stop myself: i laughed like a hyena.

  • Standard Christian response: oh, but they're not real Christians. People like ME are real Christians...

  • "yeah, kick his ass! Jesus is in my corner! No he's not he's in mine"! Jesus kicks his own ass

  • @555pontifex - Firstly he did not abandon something he didn't have to begin with. He became a Deist. Fuck off and read a book. Fucking fucktards.

  • It's about time we set sail for this church and plant a British flag on it, claiming it on behalf of our queen. I would love to see how that one plays out (allbeit from a distance).

  • "...is in a bad state of repair. Largely because the priests can't agree who should pay for its upkeep." Translation= Both sects want to use the building, neither sect wants to pay for it.

    Wonderful christians huh? God must be proud I'm sure...

  • @SAHBfan OK. I was not aware that 'theist' has such a narrow sense. Antony flew abandoned atheism and became a deist (not a theist). He followed scientists like Einstein who believed in an intelligent first cause. He defended it lucidly and rationally. Here's a quote from the great man: "It seems to me that the case for an Aristotelian God who has the characteristics of power and also intelligence, is now much stronger than it ever was before."

    @555pontifex

    "Antony Flew abandoned atheism"

    I don't deny it (although I reserve judgement about whether the degenerative brain disease which killed him a few years later played a role. It might have, it might not have. I am not in a position to know)

    But you claimed he became a theist - which he did not. He specifically defined himself as a deist and said he was not a theist in the final interview he gave which is here on youtube.
