One Magic Christmas (2 of 9)

I have mixed feeling about this film. There are some things I like and some I don't but I chose it because it's a film that is not seen that often even though it is available on DVD. Mary Steenburgen stars in this version of another take on the "It's a Wonderful Life" them. Only in this case instead of seeing what her life like if she hadn't been born, Ginny Hanks Grainger gets to see what life is like because she didn't mail her daughter's letter to Santa Claus. You see Ginny is having a terrible Christmas what with losing her home, working long hours as a cashier and her husband being out of work. So Harry Dean Stanton in the form of Gideon the Angel comes down from heaven to help her mend her ways. If you've never seen this, it may be a little bit much for very young children. You have to hand it to the writer (Thomas Meehan)for coming up with what happens next. I understand there must be a little tragedy in life for someone to find redemption but Meehan gives us enough tragedy to fill three or four Christmas movies. In short order we get: a bank robbery, a shooting, a kidnapping, and a car crashing off a bridge and into a river. How's that for Christmas cheer folks? It does tend to make your worries about your Christmas credit card bills seem kind of insignificant by comparison. This will be my final Christmas upload of 2008, although I have at least one clip I want to put up for New Years which I will do immediately after Christmas. I haven't' decided yet whether to leave the account as is or take it down of my own fruition after New Years. It's not like too many people will be looking for Christmas Videos after the Holidays until next year. Whether I'll do this again we'll have to see. So many videos are now available from so many web sites that by this time next year, you may be able to find all of these shows being shown somewhere. But I want to thank everybody for all of their wonderful comments and support and I would also like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season.

i Don't get why people knock this movie its a fantasy filled sweet film with hopes and miracles surely brought a tear to my eye as a kid What do people got against believing any way?

I love and miss this film. It is not the typical Christmas Film, but does address many feelings of the season. Too bad the major networks and all others have chosen not to air One Magic Christmas along with other very good Christmas Season films.

@skinnyminny25 There's a difference between belief & truth. Any parent with economic struggle is not going to be very spirit lifted. Money however isn't the cause of happiness or lack of. That can only come from our own level of humanity & what it is we desire in life. From what I see in the movie, the father's very hopeful, which is good. The whole "christmas" (what lies behind this facade is marketing) thing is all fine & dandy, but brainwashing children about ANYTHING is wrong.

This is as close it comes to the reality of discovering true faith at Christmas. God's still small voice stirs in us until we take the plunge, and in quiet desperation reach out and take hold of his hand. Yes, and you guessed it, we discover the friendship that Jesus of Nazerth, the chosen (christ) child, offers us.

@skinnyminny25 I think that a lot of people have issues with some of the things in this movie. I like it and I think the kids are really cute, however, when people die they don't become angels, and Santa Clause can not bring back the dead, neither can an angel. otherwise, the movie is a nice Christmas one to watch.

This is a good movie. Check out the old school "Gremlins" t-shirt. It's great!!!
