Third test of the head control system for Panda Puppet, an open source digital puppetry/Machinima system I was developing during 2006/07.

For this test I used a pre-existing Mouse rig. In the video different individual actions are demonstrated and then actions are mixed to create different kinds of movement and expressions.

You can read more about the development of this project at http://machin-x.blogspot.com

Although I still work with Blender and digital puppetry, I'm no longer pursuing development of Panda Puppet. If you're interested in open source digital puppetry I suggest taking a look at Pyppet, a digital puppetry plugin for Blender - http://pyppet.blogspot.com

  • You know, I do a lot of BGE for animation, and it isn't something I've heard of anyone else really doing, and I've been waiting for someone to do EXACTLY what you did here, a BGE for animation puppet. Very good job. I hope you'll keep working on this stuff. It's an extremely useful approach, and most people haven't thought of it. And if you did make your plugin for this, I'd like to know where to get it, because I'll use it. I've been getting into mocap for a new project, but it's harsh! Subbed

  • @MartianStories Thanks. I'm actually working with an animator and we're trying to get some funding to explore this kind work further. I did have this working, but for a much older version of Blender. Because of the numerous changes to the BGE since I did this it doesn't work any more. You should have a look at Pyppet, which is similar and available for download.

  • YULE SUBDIVIDE YOUR CREATURE ITS TOO BOXY

  • @MrIsiah777 Well, it was a WIP test made over four years ago and I didn't make the model, but yeah, subdividing would have helped.
