NIST Recreation of "The Station Nightclub FIre" with Sprinklers

This is a NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) recreation of the tragic "The Station Night Club Fire" that occurred in Warwick, Rhode Island in 2003. NIST (Daniel Madrzykowski) has done an excellent job of re-creating the fuel load and showing the progression of the fire and also showing the temperatures that were produced by the fire. Sprinklers would have made a world of difference. It would've allowed people more time to get out. However, because so many people were trampelling over each other, permanately blocking the exits the smoke still would have been dangerous.

I think though, this video is pretty accurate. Had there been sprinklers or alternate exits many people could have been saved.

This still would've been dangerous - that smoke could've possibly hurt people - but in comparison to what happened in the re-creation without sprinklers, this is nothing. Or in comparison to what actually happened, even more importantly.

Maybe an addition would be ventilation to get the smoke cleared.

There is a great write up on Wikipedia on this for those that want more information. It claims that the building should have been sprinkled when the occupancy was changed from a restaurant to a night club. Its amazing what the outcome could have been with just two sprinklers. FIRE SPRINKLERS SAVE LIVES!

I watched real footage just late last nite and it was the most terrible video! I WISH THE SPRINKLERS WERE THERE, SO MANY PEOPLE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE

Wow that would have been a huge difference on what happened on 2/20/2003 it totally would have saved all 100 lives that day!

A lot of what you see there is steam. Definatley a survivable atmosphere if you kept low and covered your mouth with clothing.

i agree with everyone else, TONS of lives would have been saved by sprinklers. sure there's a lot of smoke, but you'll notice that it's still thinner than the version without sprinkler's (they posted both). i've seen footage of the real fire and it would not have been like that with sprinklers
