I do not like the hostess, but the truth of the matter is that a hostess back then would have been exactly like that. Perhaps even worse. She's playing her part to the T.

I do find that the woman playing at hostess is enjoying her part far too much. Snobs are always natural bullies.

The hostess says that Miss Francesca is behaving inappropriately and inaccurately, but back then, the lady's companion would have been doing what she could to try to get a husband (just as Miss Francesa is doing now).
