This unmanned motorcycle is my MSc. thesis project, done in the Technion, Israel, at the agricultural engineering department.
Equations of motion for the motorcycle were derived using Newton equations, and were found to be in complete agreement with existing literature.
The control scheme is a cascaded design, synthesized using Horowitz's QFT method. The robust controller allows for a stable unmanned ride of the motorcycle and disturbance rejection over a velocity range.

The human operator remotely commands throttle action, brakes and gives a reference heading direction.

The motorcycle mechanics, electronics and actuating servo modules are all self constructed, under a budget limit of 4000$.

  • Hi everybody, thanks for your comments and compliments. Uri.

  • The user doesn't control the steering directly. He just sets the desired direction. The motorcycle steers itself.

  • Certainly don't mean to rain on your parade here, but that's a scooter, not a motorcycle. Motorcycles generally have transmissions with manual clutches. That would have added significant complexity to the project, which is impressive for sure. I'm just sayin'

  • made me smile dude nice project

  • THATS SOME FAG ASS BIKE

  • THATS SOME FAG ASS BIKE

  • Nice! I like this kind of projects, and done in Haifa :) well done.

  • Thats pretty cool man, congrats on making it work. Next step, poppin wheelies!

  • The whole point of this project is that it is stable WITHOUT a third wheel. A sidecar would ruin the fun, from a control systems point of view.

  • My first real smile today. How fun.

  • Needs a sidecar attached for stability sake. Also, be truly fun to see a store dummy riding on the thing and some fake ape hangers or such as to handlebars. I have seen some cycle riders who are no better skilled on a real motorcycle when first runs are made. Neat.
