Scottish Country Dances are often named after or associated with locations mostly in Scotland e.g Reel of Tulloch, Flowers of Edinburgh and Good Hearted Glasgow. However, it is not necessarily always the case with dances such as The Boston Two Step or The Galapogos Gallop in the repertoire!! The Unicorn Dancers meet regularly aboard the historic Frigate Unicorn berthed in Dundee and have embarked on the idea of 'Location' Scottish Country Dancing. For our inaugural excursion we have taken it to the somewhat extreme, by dancing The Schiehallion Reel just below the summit of Schiehallion (Munro at 3547ft) in Perthshire. Enjoy the frivolity of the dancing against the stunning vista of Perthshire. Be moved by the atmospheric image and sound of the pipes played in the mist at the summit with Loch Rannoch over 3000ft below.......................................... a unique event enjoy!
Who knows where we might dance next? Your suggestions for a location or an invitation would be appreciated...................................WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
Wonderful! I can see this catching on.
As a bit of personal trivia, Hugh Thurston, who devised this dance, was a mathematics professor of mine when I was a engineering student at UBC (Vancouver, Canada) in the 60s, and he ran a SCD Club on campus. I didn't take up dancing until 40 years later.
