Books: Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence by David Benatar Confessions of an Antinatalist by Jim Crawford (Let me know when you've finished reading those two so that I can send you the following...) The Conspiracy Against the Human Race by Thomas Ligotti The Trouble With Being Born by E. M. Cioran On The Suffering of the World by Arthur Schopenhauer Every Cradle is a Grave - Sarah Perry (Release Date: July 2012)
@abutnotantisocial As in our sense of self never had to make sense, and our brain never had to be equipped with the utmost comprehension of what being conscious and self-conscious means. It just needed to figure out that it wanted to survive, and how to do so. But given some spare time, imagination, and patience, logic has one thing lead to another, and our thought processes get ahead of ourselves and discover where the walls are, and where the edge of the cliff is.
@abutnotantisocial Video response uploading! I'll link and post it in the morning.
Lol watch my head explode as I try to pin 'myself' down. "I swear! I'm a real boy!" said Pinocchio. I'll surely make a second video about the subject, most likely shorter unless I get some response from users first. I'm thinking the reason "I" doesn't make any sense when put under scrutiny is because evolution only required "I" to be what it had to be for the organism to survive.
Oh, and thanks for linking my video on Vloggerdome, Gary. I just visited and noticed. Of course, whether or not you agree with the video in whatever way, the effort in categorization is appreciated.
@abutnotantisocial I've decided that this is a fascinating topic, and will film a video response the moment I get out the door on my way to school. Simply about I, brain, and the rest of the body or identity. Not the rest of what Gary was talking about- that would be too loaded for a before/after class walk and talk; I tend to blow singular topics up into 10 minute + videos, anyway.
@abutnotantisocial Haha and me saying that I want to clearly define our language is a hope, rather than an ironic statement implying I speak in clearly defined language... I'm a metaph-whore.
@abutnotantisocial What I mean is that to me, there is no distinction. Brain is I. 'My brain' is the brain telling the vocal system to talk about itself.
In the end, my only plea is to minimize the word games by clearly defining our language. Not that I don't appreciate alternatives in wording and metaphor- they give us different way to think about the same things.
@Yamikaiba123 Though after that fact, I'm not bothered either by them not coming to the site. From that attitude alone, it would seem that they wouldn't be much of an appreciable presence there anyway.
@Yamikaiba123 It's like a declaration of, 'I don't like that guy, so I won't be involved with anything that has to do with him. Including this awesome space you're trying to build for us.' There's just something about that that screams ego-centrism.
As for my comment that wasn't in your direction, (the one where I supposed to be party poopers the ones who won't go to YouDoubled because you were there), I think that there's selfishness and forcing a friend to choose between you and another person, even if them being friends with both of you in this instance doesn't entail any unwanted communication between you and the other person.
@Yamikaiba123 As for how relevant it was to the video, Fred also commented on whatever comment I was responding to. We were talking about you, and that lead to where it did. I don't wonder how I can pick a opportunity out of the blue on how I can say something negative about someone else- if I feel it's something mentionable, and it's pertinent, I do so. And I don't find offense in you taking a crap on me for it. It's to be expected- so it doesn't reduce how I enjoy your presence or your videos.
If you're referring to me at 16:00 (I'm not sure), of course I expect you to defend yourself from my comment. The same goes for my reaction to your reaction. There's nothing to say other than why you said I was wrong, and that I should elaborate on the basis for my 'accusation' or whatever it was- and I did that. I still don't care about getting offended, nor holding grudges. I also didn't say I was just trying to help- talking dirt about someone isn't helpful, but may be relevant.
Can't we identify our brain and the programs it downloads and runs as 'ourselves'? I don't see the difference between say 'I' make my life more palatable, and 'the processes my brain runs' make my life more palatable.

@Yamikaiba123 'My brain' still assumes a distinction between the brain and 'I'. There is only brain ;)
