"Don't dip your back shoulder!" We've all heard that exclaimed at some baseball park. OR "You're dipping!" Really?!? A player is dipping? Maybe their doing it correctly. See what's right and what's wrong in the proper baseball swing.

  • tsujaguchiz, thanks for your thoughts. Personally, I think most of it is WAY TO OVER ANALYZED. Sure players have different nuances and slight variations, but the core movements are ALL the same. I think mechanics are way to over analyzed period. Confidence and timing as much to do if not more with one's ability to hit than does his/her mechanics. Thanks again.

  • At HitItHere . net, click on "Big League Swings" and see the "at contact" stills of these hitters; Brandon Inge, Joe Mauer, Alfonso Soriano, Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Mark McGwire, Jim Thome, Albert Pujols, Mark Kotsay, Adrian Beltre, Travis Hafner, and Miguel Cabrera. All with the front arm up and away either similarly or exactly like the hitter in my video. This is obviously an advantageous hitting position, while the position you speak of can be as well but seen less often by mlb hitters.

  • Why is his left arm so far up and away from his body at contact.

That arm should be in a pocket close to the body.

  • I'd have to disagree with you to say it "should" be in one particular spot. The position of the front arm will vary depending on pitch location. "Should" it be close to the body? It can be and that's not wrong, but most of the time it actually is not AT CONTACT. After contact & extension it will tuck back into the position you are speaking of. See the stills of great hitters here, HitItHere. net/baseballsoftball6.html . Some are in the EXACT position of my hitter, some have it close(r)

  • Hi I study rotational hitting mechanics too.

Today's rotational swing is different from old time rotational swing (Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio)Difference between old and new is similar to golfs classification method.

It means that, puncher-type & swinger-type. perhaps Joe Mauer is swinger type.

Swinger type is old fasion swing. Derek Jeter is typical puncher type. And liner & rotational is swingertype's Classification method. Swings like mark trumbo were not seeing in old time MLB.
