wrote this last year, mah first semester away at college...
quick note on the title: antaeus was the guy hercules fought who lost all his strength when hercules lifted him up out of contact with his mother earth

these are the lyrics to this particular song!
1. this weather's always nice back home
with dripping twilit pines to roam
stay out until your fingers freeze
here there's not a single tree

departed like an astronaut
the handshakes and the photo-ops
realized past the atmosphere
there's not another soul out here

2. that armor we enshrined of mine...
tell me does the bronze still shine?
that sword would cut whole cities down
if only i could lift it now

waking just to sleep again
for sympathy and cigarettes
for daydreams that could never be
and because you don't give up on me
so don't give up on me

3. you pressed into my crimson hands
the crucifixion drawn in crayon,
smiled and said goodnight and left
down the hall and climbed in bed

i staggered onto market street
a pariah in the wind and sleet
they broke me and cast lots for my clothes
and, strewn facedown beside the road,
i did it all for you, you know

  • This is absolutely the most wonderful thing.

This is one of those songs that pains me to listen to only for the fact that I wish it was my own.
