personally I don't think this is near his best, vocally (as in technically). It is otherwordly in one sense, of course, but for Björling this reaches halfway technically IMO. But there is so much more to admire. There is such a huge pathos in everything he sang, especially towards the end of his career. It's like a big bang of untold feelings, both the happy and sad, in one voice... Listen to his last recording of "En svane" (Grieg). It is beyond words..
I prefer Jonas Kaufmann's recording both musically and artistically. But vocally, this is far superior. Bjørling manages to create the right colours in his voice without breathiness or covering.
Its always a delight to hear him sing
