I actually do live in Metaline Falls and all I've heard is locals complain about the dam removal. However, whenever we go up to mill pond no one is ever there. All the complaining is basically a bunch of Yokels pissed about the loss of a pond that they never use anyway. There are thousands of other great places to recreate in the area, get off your quad and go find em'! It will benefit the fish and sullivan creek by removing a warm, silted up mudhole and restoring it into a nice creek again!

@americanwhitewater I just visited there about a month ago (my Dad lives in Metaline Falls) and I didn't talk to a single resident in that area that supports the millpond being removed. In fact, all that I talked to were adamantly against it.

Great vid.
Leave the dam and the mill pond alone. They've been there for years as the result of hard work by thousands of hard workers and now they want to take it away to restore nature to it's natural habitat and so these kayakers can have a little fun. Well, it looks to me like they are having plenty of fun with the dam in place. So, SCREW THE KAYAKERS, I SAY!!!

Millpond dam is not being removed for kayakers, it is being removed for fish, the local economy, and public safety. The dam has not generated power in half a century and has a finite lifespan. Outside funding is available now to remove it so that local ratepayers do not have to foot the bill. Paddlers supported this dam removal because it is good for Sullivan Creek but also because the whole settlement package is responsible and respectful of local realities and desires.
