A psychedelic collage treatment of hurricanes and instances of 'the wind' throughout popular culture and songs. Attitudes toward natural disasters in general. This is a wholly a combination of original work, guest tracks, montages, and voicejail (community voicemail recordings from the 80's and 90's) clips.
The last piece in the 'Dust in the Wind' versions medley sequence is by The Evolution Control Committee from their 'Mic in Track' album. The Evolution Control Committee is at http://www.evolution-control.com/. All mainstream song usage is fragmentary as songs have been telescoped.
This program is meant to be heard in its entirety; all material is used fairly for the purpose of educational contrast, artistic expression, and the creation of a uniquely re-contextualized syntopical arrangement and cultural overview on the subject of the wind, weather, and hurricanes. Not for profit. Any proceeds for this program go back to the NCN project and are considered donations to it.
This program was originally a part of the 'Needle in the Red' series created in 2005 and has since been expanded in light of various hurricane events such as Ivan, and most recently Hurricane Irene (in the summer of 2011) which is part of it's latest incarnation, offered here.
The full 2hr. and 22 min. version of this program is available here: http://nationalcynical.bandcamp.com/album/the-eye-of-the-hurricane
This was webcast on Plundercast, DFM radio out of Amsterdam and We Slack Radio on 08/28/11.
