I had the opportunity to fly on the last revenue flight on JAL's Boeing 747 on the TPE-NRT route in October 2010. There wasn't much fanfare as JAL flew its last revenue service B747 from Taipei Taoyuan to Tokyo Narita. The grounds crew just waved good bye and farewell as we taxied away. Now on the TPE-NRT route JAL uses its Boeing 767s.
As Japan Airlines restructures itself the airline layoffs many employees and retires its older gas guzzling jets. This video is a tribute to these once mighty birds flying to Taiwan under the JAL name. It will be sad when their Boeing 747s are finally retired.
Taipei's airport is....sorry, not pretty at all. Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul have the best looking airports in Asia.
