Most people who lift weights don't know what they're doing and can hurt themselves, says Lehman College lecturer Brad Schoenfeld, who teaches in the Health Sciences Department's Exercise Science program. For example, he shows students in his physical fitness and exercise class the right and wrong ways to do the upright row, so shoulders don't get injured. It's always wise to consult a fitness professional when hitting the gym, he says -- and to learn about the biomechanics of proper exercise.
