Lafayette Ron Hubbard wrote pulp fiction before he got the idea to create a religion: Scientology: Anatomy of a Frightening Cult READERS DIGEST, May 1980

The faithful inner core serve as thieves, shills and spies. The shocking story behind one of the most dangerous "religious cults" in America today

By Eugene M. Methvin

May, 1980 -

In THE LATE 1940s, pulp writer L. Ron Hubbard declared, "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."

Hubbard did start his own religion, calling it the "Church of Scientology," and it has grown into an enterprise today grossing an estimated $500 million [updated] a year worldwide.

  • I have some great video from this night but I almost don't feel like posting it. The boards are so vicious and self-loathing. :(

  • Suggest you play the Class 8 "Assists" Hubbard lecture clip, where Hubbard is talking the Xenu story. THAT CLIP HAS "RUINOUS" (not really) effects on them! Hubbard's spiritual therapy lineup takes years to get to the Xenu/body thetans story. It is confidential. It is the MOST worst case scenario stuff you can say to a Scientologist, particularly when you understand what you're saying. If you talk "body thetans" in sentences that make sense, that is worst case scenario information to them.

  • 00:30 Ryland Hawkins, Author Services Inc Legal Director, good guy, very low key. He's old Guardian's Office legal area staffer, joined ASI in 1982-1983, you're in the presence of a really old time ASI staffer. He's seen it all, all the blowing ASI execs and staff over the years. Ryland and Joanne, his wife, have seen a lot over the years! Joanne, his wife used to work with Jeff Hawkins, same name, not related though. Suggest you talk more about "body thetans" anc "body thetan clusters" !

  • The tape, believe me, the MOST ruinous Hubbard lecture clip, is that section from the Class 8 "Assists" tape. That's Ryland Hawkins, balding man in suit in the first minute, he's the ASI (Author Services Inc) Legal Division person, he handles legal and security for ASI. Nice guy very low key, but old Guardian's Office actually, transferred to ASI in 1982 or so, been there ever since. I used to work at ASI, nice people, very privileged staff lifestyle. They live the first house on Sycamore.
