Samael Aun Weor, author of seventy books about universal religious principles (see gnosticbooks.org), appeared as a guest on a Gnostic television show on Mexican television in the 1970's. This is the highest quality recording we have found. We have added English subtitles. In this segment, Samael Aun Weor discusses the Egyptian and Medieval Alchemists and the transmutation of lead into gold.
True story that happened to a gnostic:
By rushing through the city streets and jaywalking all the while,
I upset the gods in such a way they killed my soul mate's smile;
but the rushing worked, I caught the tram and arrived at my lover's place,
but all I found was a broken bond and some tears running down her face.
The relationship was tragically over before it had come to its final fruition,
all because rushing and jaywalking were left out of my karmic tuition.

that's also my understanding of the symbolism here. trasmutating the hard feelings, lead, into pure love and affection, gold. certainly there are those who say that after reaching a certain spiritual level real transmuation is possible, but I dunno, never seen this

It was my understanding the alchemical "transmutation of lead into gold" was only metaphorical.
That this was actually a "recipe" via an embedded symbology that represented the path to Gnosis.
The "Gold" represented the resulting human spirit being transformed and having Christ come into your heart.
