Just Another Century

Isn't it funny how time flies so quickly around people and events. There was never an intention to write a "Millenium" song - but one got out of the bag somehow!

Lyrics:
It was a cold mid-sixties winter when you moved in next door,
The snow was so deep or were we really that small
Throwing snowballs at street lamps in the evening glow,
Oh we were the best of friends so long, long ago.

Now its just another century, a new start in many ways,
Out drinking with my friends on this millennium day,
Talking the past, the present, the future away,
The bright colours of the city shining like the northern lights tonight.

It was ten years on when we said our last goodbyes,
You were so happy then and I was raging at the sky,
And I marched with the best of them and sang songs to end all wars,
But the killing still went on of course, of course, of course.

I heard some years ago you got married and moved away,
You always said you wanted children and I knew you wouldnt stay
And between man walking on the moon and tearing down the Berlin Walls
Our friendship died away, Lord, how those autumn leaves fall.

So now Im out here drinking with some real good friends of mine,
I dont regret a single thing, and I wouldnt change one line,
Well drink a toast to absent friends, both the living and the dead,
And Ill remember two young children throwing snowballs, before they went to bed.
