Strange to think of it now, but in the late 70s, Chelsea were a West London yo-yo club who regularly made the short trip across the capital to Leyton. Of the 13 times the two teams met between 1971-2 and 1981-2, five ended in wins for Orient, five in wins for Chelsea, while the other three were drawn.

This game, played on 25th February, saw Chelsea storm into a 2-0 lead, until Orient pulled one back through Phil Hoadley on the stroke of half time. A tense second half ensued until Orient took advantage of some terrible defending to register one of the great cup shocks of all time - on one of the worst pitches!

Other Orient greats featured include Ray Goddard, Peter Allen, Barry Fairbrother and Ian Bowyer.

Chelsea legends include Peter Bonetti, Ron Harris, John Hollins, ex-O David Webb, Steve Kember, Peter Osgood, Alan Hudson and Peter Houseman.

  • Ha Ha great stuff, I remember it well but it is still great to see and what about the Chelsea fans singing between 1.32 - 1.40 "Wembley Wembley here we come" even the fans they had then were wankers, granted not as bad as the cunts that follow them now and at least the players then took it on the chin unlike Terry, Drogba and co.

  • a nice history!!when the -small- team beat the -big- team it's always nice!!

    in italy too!.....i'm italian :-D

  • @RogerH0 Sorry to hear that .... I wish I was born 3 decades early to witness this match.

  • What a day that was. Sadly my dad and uncle who were there with me that day have since died but iam sure they are both smilling down when they see that video

  • @sheena1625 Aye but compare their transfer window spendings to that of Chelsea etc

  • @lufcfamilyguy12 Hang on, is that the same Aston Villa that's owned by an American multimillionaire? And the same Fulham that were languishing in the bottom division until Mohamed Al Fayed took them over? Check your history.

  • I just wondered how he was doing I went out with him when I was 14!

  • @smoolet Bobbie is living in Australia near to Barrie,

  • @EssexBoy696969 I am Barries best mate from those days. At that game, boy did we get p......d that night. Barrie is well and living in Australia. i will phone him and see if he will post something

  • Remember this game well I was only 12 at the time, every away game in London for a year after the chant of Orient! went up.................LOL all these years later we can laugh at it all now. I even remember some of the Chelsea fans running on to the pitch to get the game abandoned.

  • @wwsheriff we had the most vocal fans in english football. there's no chance u would have run your mouth off like that at the shed end in those days. silly little prick

  • It's great supporting a club like Orient. Fantastic real ales and great bars in the ground, and unlike supporting a prem team you don't have to join a que for an hour to catch a train or buy a burger. Much better match day experience than the over hyped premiership and thats coming from someone who has been to number of prem games, but never enjoyed myself as much as down the O's.
