There is nothing more sad and forlorn than an abandoned building. There are some in every town around the world.

When I look at the images of the abandoned church here at the beginning of this video (circa 1910) I cannot but help to wonder how many people over the years have moved through this sanctuary and spent many a Sunday afternoon there.

How many weddings, Sunday School Recitals, Church Picnics, and Funerals have occurred in this once sacred space? So many happy and sad memories once filled this building....but.....it is now left to the mercy of vandals, drunks, homeless vagrants, and the natural elements.

These abandoned buildings once were occupied and held to be important by people just like you and me. The people are now long gone...but the places where they once lived, loved, worshiped, and worked are still here. They stand as mute reminders of what once was but is no more.

This makes me wonder. Will the places I now hold dear one day be abandoned and neglected and stand empty like these once active places?

  • look at 3:56 you can see the gas prices on the sign

there was a station near me that closed when gas was $160 and it was still on the sign when the price hit $400. It has now ben reopened

good old days huh? Thank you for commenting.

  • it nearly makes me cry. seeing a buissness like a gas station, where a guy happily started a buuissness and years later it just sits by the highway.

Thank you SpartanW98 for stopping by. Yes it is very sad to see a business abandoned like that.

I am glad that my video touched your heart. Human life is so SO short and transitory.

  • Very life like. Which program did you use?

  • Fascinating and haunting...could you mention the states where these images were taken?

  • Amazing shots.. Seriously I would die for that camera.

  • where is the first church in this video located?

  • Some of the images are fairly spooky....and the lighting you did was incredible.

  • i never seen an abandoned church before.

  • You've done an expliary job of capturing the emotional ache of the forgotten, replete with a glimpse of those who once lived, worked, played, loved and died in these shells of abandoned hope. Thank you for the insight, the moments of time past...and a deeper humility.

  • Very beautiful.
