I love pondering and evaluating the matter, and the fact that me and many others do does not in any way prove the existence of a God or the creation of our cosmos with a purpose or meaning. Of course we should examine our lives and how we treat others. This again, does not mean that there must be a higher power, or an ultimate meaning to anything other than our own experience. I have not claimed that this is our only existence, but we have no evidence to the contrary.

@bubbyj Not so. We would only need people behaving in a way that is consistent with the ways that we know people behave. Stories grow and change as they are retold. This is a reliable fact.
Also, it isn't lying if you believe it's true. I really don't think an of the hosts doubt the sincerity of believers, but it is easy to doubt that believers have really examined their own beliefs with the type of skepticism they would use for a different, conflicting set of religious beliefs.

if ' you do not know if there is purpose' then why would you expend it the briefest of moments in this all too brief existence even considering or evaluating the matter- that makes no sense. All life is as a blade of grass in the wave of time (here today gone tomorrow). There is purpose to be evaluated in how we treat others and what is the full nature of human existence, You have no basis to assert our existence is limited to this life. Plato said the unexamined life has no value

@XiaoPow - perhaps you should 'worry' about reading the prior comments so that you can reply with reason and in context

So much of this show's arguments relies heavily on every Christian being a liar including modern day Christians, historical Christians, and the apostles. No one can have performed miracles? All people that claim it are discredited and even believing in them shows your credulity? Sheesh. There is no "Free Thinking" here. Simply "Everyone lies about everything except what I think is right". Absolutely no open minds.

You ask a lot of questions about what is good and what is right, but they are very simple questions to answer. How do you expect me to draw the conclusion that god is the creator and does indeed exist from asking the question "What is good?". You should worry about the evidence of the premise before you assert further details.

We know not if there is a purpose to the universe, or if the universe has a will or what value it has. We do know one thing and this one thing is simple. We care about the well-being of ourselves and others. We can't assign much to this world and life other than that we are concerned with our own experience. Now, if you think that your god's authority is more important than your innate moral compass you are nothing but a slave.

you guys are great. one day humankind might actually be free of the willful ignorance of religion
-
@shieldsff if you say so then it must be true

For "God", substitute "people who claim to speak in the name of God", because that's what it really means. Christians might also try substituting "God's messenger, Mohammed", and non-Catholics might try "God's representative on earth, the Pope". Shieldsff seems to regard him/herself as divinely ordained to know "the wisdom & judgments of God" - he/she/it is either one of the most arrogant people on the planet, or just plumb crazy.
@fcolli8889 Yes! I see the truth now!
George Washington rose from the dead, therefore he is god, and thus god really was the founder of this country!
I am no longer an atheist. I believe! o___o

when you start to think and gain information, that's when religion steps aside.
