Kenya to help crush Somali insurgency

Kenyas intention to help crush the insurgency in Somalia is the strongest government response so far to the crisis in the troubled eastern neighbour.
Somalia has been Kenyas most enduring security headache since independence, starting with the Shifta movement that waged war in the 1960s; onto the present threats posed by the infiltration of global terrorist groups like al-Qaeda into the governance vacuum in Somalia. Al Shabaab, the Islamist militia group currently engaging government forces in Mogadishu, makes no secret of its links to Osama bin Ladens al-Qaeda network, and that would be a major concern to Kenya.
Some of the key leaders of the East African Al-Qaeda cell that planned the two bombings are believed to be still operating in Somalia and playing key roles in managing the Islamist militias that now threaten to topple the transitional government.

Tell me, since I´m not african and I´m not fully informed about the somalian civil war, but what´s keeping the AU from sanctioning a joint military intervention from Ethiopia and Kenya in Somalia in order to defeat and expel the Islamist Militias of Al Shabab from its territories? Doesn´t the Somalian Federal Government support such an intervention? Or does it still holds a grudge towards Ethiopia because of the Ogaden War? And do Kenya and Ethiopia have conflicting interests towards Somalia?

@magellanmax you must be a fool my friend Native Somalis in the Northern Kenya are not starving or suffering from aids. The Somali Nomads up in North have life stocks, and make there own food not buy there food. which means they have more full bellys then souther kenyans which is plagued with drugs, alcohol, orphans, prostitutes and HIV / Aids. Southern Kenya is Corrupt, Northern Kenya is a peaceful Sandy Savana full of nature NO SLUMS. The only violence is tribal Live Stock Raiding

A government body fighting insurgents is not a joke.

Siad Barre never organized insurgency in the 60s. The Somali republic did offer military equipment to NFD rebels. Anyway Kenya was much scared of Somalia then, and it still is if Somalia gets back on it's feet.

You're right, it serves the interest of Kenya to have an Unstable Somalia, just Ethiopia.
