Madrassahs have flourished throughout Muslim lands for centuries teaching the sacred Islamic sciences and cultivating a cultural environment rooted in knowledge. The Nizamiyyah in Baghdad, al-Azhar in Cairo, and the Qarawiyyin in Fez produced some of the best and most outstanding scholars of our Ummah. As Muslims today seek to build communities on a traditional ethic of learning, we are forced to seriously consider the modern challenge of schooling and education. Should Muslims reach back in history for an educational model that worked then, or should they attempt to create a fertile synthesis between the traditional and modern methods of learning? In this five-part presentation, digitally recorded in stereo on four CDs, Shaykh Abdal-Hakim Murad takes the listener on a tour through the process of education, from the origin of knowledge - the teaching of the Names to Adam - to mankind's great "falls" and "reclamations" and finally to the Adamic ideal. Examining the underpinnings of modernity and by extension the Western social structure, the Shaykh unveils the achievements and the shortcomings of this educational model. The Shaykh establishes that today the only significant alternative to the Western educational model is the Islamic model. And by examining the Islamic model, one sees that education is the means by which Allah takes His servants from darkness to Light. In this series of talks, Dr. Murad expounds the concepts of wilayah (sainthood), nafs (worldly soul), the types of knowledge, and aspects of a curriculum taught in traditional madrassahs, as well as the role of the female scholar in the classical Islamic system. It is our belief that these talks will be of benefit to teachers, students, parents, home-schoolers, and non-Muslims interested in alternative forms of education. (Quoted from IHYA Productions)

  • Nice talk, but this brother talks in a difficult language. It is more intellectual than inspirational. He is a good thinker, but not very good speaker. I am falling a sleep, it is too philosophical for me. Anyway, May Allah reward him for all his efforts.

  • With regard to the question of beauty: I think it is rather unfortunate that so many of our mosques in the Uk are lacking beauty and taste; and this is almost always the case with Pakistani-Bangladeshi mosques. The Turkish muslims have some attractive mosques in London, but I can't think of many others.

  • @alithelin1234 where is the evidence for this incendiary remark. please try not to make statements without proof. onus of proof is on the claimant

  • @alithelin1234 Islam does not require us to suspend reason, in fact the Qur'an commands us to use our minds.

Where in the Hadith does Prophet Muhammad say that his parents are in hellfire? I have look at many of the Hadith collections, but I have never encountered this teaching. However, if you think you can prove this, I will await your proof.

I am convinced that God (Allah) is far more merciful and compassionate that you seem to think. God is not a vengeful despot!

  • @bayreuth79

Stop using ur ration. The prophet (saw) told us himself that his parents are in hellfire.

  • @alithelin1234 You believe that the woman who gave birth to and nurtured the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is in hell fire? Do you really think that Allah would punish the Prophet's mother for no reason other than that she died before Islam? It says in the Qur'an that God will not wrong anyone, so how can he condemn a person for failing to accept a religion that wasn't available to that person? Please do not limit or circumscribe the Rahma (mercy) of Allah.

  • @bayreuth79

the prophets parents are in hellfire.

  • @alithelin1234 Abdul Hakim Murad has never said that the kuffar will go to Jannah; but he has said that it is not impossible that some of the kuffar will go to Jannah. The parents of Muhammad (saws) were not muslims, so does that mean that they are in hell fire? The Qur'an distinguishes between different kinds of kuffar; in fact the Qur'an itself says that "they are not all alike". There are many kuffars who are sincere monotheists and good hearted people- why would Allah punish them?

  • Just amazing Subhanallah !!!!!!!!!!!!!
