This bar, (that's how I say "bear" in Alaska, especially when its cold out) ran right by us. I mean, you can see how close. I'd hate to be that fish that was mauled. Close encounter. It was certainly mauled. This is a wild bar, not some wimpy zoo bar. And it was HUNGRY. And, look at the pics I posted, you can see the bears will attack each other, so why not us? I know not. No. I have no idea. But everyone asked me if I was scared. No. Obviously these quizzical people don't know me very well. What am I going to do anyway with all my injures, run? I don't think slow. I mean, "so". I'll slowly hand my PB&J sandwich to the guide and then RUN. I know its a brown bear, and I believe its a Grizzly bear, but I am almost sure its not a Kodiak bear. Kodiaks are supposedly only found on Kodiak Island. This is a Coastal Brown Bear and they get the BIGGEST of them all because they get to eat all the huge salmon fish.
