Colours

Here is a mortal coil
Here is a life you'll lose
Here is a way to heaven
Here is a path to choose
Oh, just fill your lungs with air
Don't give up to despair
There's love enough to share

Chorus
Fill My Life with colours that will spin around four walls
Give me something, Keep me standing
Never let me fall
Like love
Or something that it ture
Don't let my eyes weep blue
Or something just like you

I took a road to nowhere
I climbed the stairs to see
An old grey man was crying
'That's not the life for me'
So I packed my bags to leave
Too scared to believe
I'll ever fight to breath

Give me a life to treasure
Find more than simple pleasure
There's more my eyes have yet to see
Here comes a change of weather
I'll keep my head together
There's more my heart has yet to feel

I wrote 'Colours' in a different lifetime. It was written for a band and there is a rock arrangement for guitar, which I love. I do actually have a 4-track band recording of this song but it is of too poor quality to let out of its cage. I don't play guitar like this anymore and all these old songs are a struggle to re-learn. On 'Colours', the observant among you will notice, I use my nails and hand to play the guitar and not a plectrum. This is how I deaden the strings to get the rhythm. Consequently I've cut the knuckle of my thumb, got a nasty blister on the ball of my thumb which, of course, burst, a cut to my third finger and sustained general destruction to the finger nails of my right hand. It's like the old days. The rhythm used to be more complex than this but this will have to do for now. I need my hands for other purposes these days.

'Colours' is about the point in a life when quality of life is balanced against mortality more sharply than at any other time.
