Mitchell College students produced their own Battle of the Bands on the College's campus in April of 2009. All proceeds from the event benfited St. Jude Childrens Hospital

NEW LONDON April 17, 2009 Mitchell College students presented local and campus musical talents to the community in Battle of the Bands on Saturday, April 25.

The stage was set in front of the College's new Duquès Center, while audience members sat on blankets on the College Green. Admission was free but guests could purchase barbecue tickets at the event. The event was produced by five Mitchell College students as part of coursework in their Communication studies. Students in the course were required to plan, organize and run a community-enhancing project. The students who produced the inaugural Battle of the Bands were Justin Hammett, Liandra Hodge, Jeff Kahn, John Bentsen and Daniel Erhart. They are in planning stages now for a Battle of the Bands II int he spring, with a date yet to be confirmed.

Prizes were raffled and over $250 was donated to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

"The idea came from our mutual appreciation for music and our admiration for St. Judes policy that no child be denied treatment regardless of their financial situation, says Daniel Erhart.

The following bands were featured in the 2009 set; and each band agreed to perform at the event free of charge:

New Way Down, New London - a Mitchell College student band with Mike Baird on guitar and vocals, Chris Fanti on drums, Scott Worobow on bass, and DanPrior backing with harmony vocals.

The Search, Hartford - a band that formed while the members were in high school, has transformed several times before the current iteration with Chris Brown on piano and vocals, John O'Hara on bass, Nick Powell on drums, and Austin Hatch on guitar.




Mustache, New London the four-piece jam band that played roots rock with a funk edge will return from a hiatus featuring acoustic music by Tony Shangho and Jon Young.

The Paul Brockett Roadshow Band, New London formed in December 2005, the band has played close to 100 live shows throughout the Northeast. Band members brought several styles together to create their own version of country-inspired rock with punk beats, and includes Paul Brockett on guitar and vocals, Dave Anderson on bass, and Meghan Killimade on drums.
