Nasty Computer Virus

NANAIMO - The City of Nanaimo says it knows more about a nasty virus that has crippled the city's computer network.

It struck Wednesday forcing staff to shut down the entire network to protect against more attacks.

Staff are in the process of removing the virus one computer at a time.

The City says the virus, known as a Quak Bot is a new variant of a virus that has been around for a year or so.

It likely got into the network through an infected Internet browser.

The City's Director of Information Technology says the virus is a criminal tool designed to steal information.
