Footage from the scene on Mount Eden Road in Auckland City, NZ where a man was killed after being struck by a vehicle which did not stop after hitting him.
Another motorist struck the body and called local police who started an investigation.

Report partially taken from Fairfax:
The dead man was lying on a pedestrian crossing near Watling St when he was hit by a motorist around 2.45am.

That driver stopped and called police, saying he had hit a man lying on the road.

As a result police began investigating whether Warehu had been hit by another car.

Pathologists had confirmed Warehu died of head injuries as a result of being hit, and police now believe he was already dead when he was run over a second time.

"We've seen the injuries that have caused death and there may be injuries on the body consistent with being struck after death," said detective sergeant Pete Steward.

Steward said it was possible a driver might not be aware they had hit the man.

Police had no description of the car that had hit the man, and were appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Avondale police on 09 820 5700.

  • The 4x4 was involved.

  • Where's the privacy?

  • @fsgt32 There is nothing to identify the deceased in this footage. Trust me when I say that the scene was a lot more graphic then what I have shown. I carefully choose and framed my shots so that there was nothing to identify the deceased and at times when no blanket was covering him, I refrained from filming. I try to do these jobs as sensitively as possible.

  • I am a very close member of the deceased, you had no right to put this up. Weather you can see who it is or not you should be consider it from our point of view and his sons point of view. We do not want this on you tube for others to view and for us to re-live. What has our world come to!! Get it off now!!

  • Very insensitve to the driver of the 4x4. He was not involved.

You could have blanked out the rego

  • who cares this is great footage..im surprised you get so close

  • As far as I'm concerned identification of the deceased is not an issue here. I'm more concerned with the registration of the green 4x4 being clearly visible.
