Chapter 27

First days in a new school are tough unless you have a set of pre-ordered best friends awaiting your arrival.

It was Monday morning and Adrienne and Cara were getting ready for school. Adrienne was wearing black skinny jeans, a white and purple striped shirt and black ballet flats. Cara was wearing dark skinny jeans, a hot pink zebra striped t-shirt, a long sleeved white shirt underneath to hide her bruises, and her pink low tops. They heard a car horn outside and headed out to Josh and Taylors car.
Adrienne- Hey Taylor Hey Josh, this is my cousin Cara.
Taylor- Hey
Josh-sup?
Cara- Hey Guys
At school they showed Cara where all her classes were and filled her in on who was good and who was bad. At lunch they were sitting at their table when Melissa, Michelle and Derek came and sat down.
Melissa- Hey you must be Cara. Im Melissa
Cara- nice to meet you.
Michelle- I like your shirt. Oh by the way Im Michelle.
Cara- Thanks
Derek- and Im Derek
Cara-Hey
Taylor-Derek, where are the guys?
Derek- umm they should be here soon, they were getting their lunches. Oh there they are. (Cara looked over at who they were talking about and gasped)
Cara- NICK! JOE! KEVIN! (The boys look up to see Cara)
Kevin- Cara? Oh my gosh
Nick- what are you doing here?
Cara- uhh I moved in with my cousin Adrienne.
Joe- No way! Shes your cousin? (They all hug Cara)
Adrienne- um am I missing something?
Joe- Oh hi Age! (Kisses her cheek and sits down next to her) Cara was our neighbor back in New Jersey.
Melissa- really? Wow thats cool (Nick sat down between her and Cara and Kevin squeezed in between Taylor and Derek)
Cara- yea they were like my best friends
Kevin- were?
Cara- ok are! I missed you guys!
Joe- so whyd you move in with Adrienne?
Cara- umm
Nick- Cara (gives her a *did he hurt you* look)
Cara- (nods her head) Id rather not talk about that now.
Melissa- Ok new topic! Crop walk sign up time!
Joe/Derek- (groan) Do we have too?
Melissa- unless youre not man enough?
Joe/Derek-well be there
Nick- hey Cara can we talk?
Cara- sure (they get up and walk to an empty corner in the cafeteria)
Nick-what did he do to you?
Cara-(slides up her sleeve) he beat me
Nick- Cara you have to tell someone! Have you told anyone besides me?
Cara- Adrienne and her parents but thats it. I made them promise not to tell the police. Theyll take my mom too Nick! I cant let that happen.
Nick- promise me youll stay safe
Cara- promise

Just then a guy walked up to their lunch table and talked to Melissa. She pointed over to her and Nick and he looked up and smiled at Cara. She smiled back shyly. She turned to see a girl not too far away glaring at her.
