  • A beautiful rendition of this equally beautiful song. I think Kate herself would be impressed. 5 ***** for you and into my 'Best cover versions' playlist go you! Top job.

  • That was wonderful, thanks for sharing. A really beautiful respectful rendition.

  • A Lush voice!

  • Oh yes, I know Happy's work on youtube. I think that's how I got to Mila via the "And Dream of Sheep" thread back into Kate and then onto some covers. Happy is an amazing talent!

  • Cool. By the way, speaking of head tone, my wife wouldn't forgive me if I didn't take the opportunity to mention the singer Happy Rhodes. She covers Kate's song "And Dream of Sheep". Check my list of videos. Happy has a genuine 4 octave range from A2 to G-Sharp6.

  • It's takes a lot of power, trust and confidence to go into the head tone and to do it right. Most of us are too scared to go up there much. For someone with a naturally high, (and trained) voice like Kate's, it's probably easier. I would imagine Mila is an alto like myself, but trust me, she can go up there if she chooses. She's probably just more comfortable in the chest register. I know I am. I do like your thoughts on her interpretation of the song. Maybe you're right.

  • I don't know that Mila has a head tone that she uses. I've seen her in concert and she's always sung in this range. I don't think she's "scraping along" at the top of her range, but that she made the decision to sing the chorus in a different way, less wistful than Kate's interpretation.

For instance, one theory about the lyrics is that the protagonist is communicating with a lover, planning to go into the garden and make love under the ivy. And (if you do it right) might make you yell.

  • Finally someone who knows what they are talking about.....

    excellent advice!

  • I agree. The problem is that she should go into her head voice but chooses instead to scrape the top of her chest register. It would be lovely if she went up. It would keep the delicacy of the song. Otherwise yes, the emotion is there.

  • Oh sing it girl. Completely wonderful. so much feeling behind it!
