American director Edward A. Burger takes us on his unforgettable journey into the hidden lives of China's forgotten Zen Buddhist hermit tradition. "Amongst White Clouds is a look at the lives of zealot students, gaunt ascetics and wise masters living in isolated hermitages dotting the peaks and valleys of China's Zhongnan Mountain range." The Zhongnan Mountains have been home to recluses since the time of the Yellow Emperor, some five thousand years ago. Many of China's most realized Buddhist masters attained enlightenment in this very range!

  • thanks for posting this. this film is excellent

  • Nature is delusion, delusion is nature.

Read the Lankavatara Sutra, realize the unborn mind, and become a hermit wherever you are, even if you live on the busiest street in New York City.

  • VERY american movie!

"Does being close to nature influence your practice?"

    Gosh! American stereotypes.

  • Well man there is a lot of monks and a lot of different interpretations of zen/taoism. Some monks never talk to people, some monks dont even teach or answer any questions about zen because they believe that its pointless to try to explain of this teaching to a normal person. Maybe they are just pissed because of their past and they still haven't dealt with it. Maybe they are pissed because they are being filmed. This guys seem to be a little arogant to me too but i dont judge. Just be present..:)

  • These two guys seem a little bit judgmental in their way as being the only way - this is not a path that seems of the heart because it strikes me as a very arrogant thing to call nature a delusion - maybe an illusion but somewhat limited in their way of thinking it good for all. Does this path have heart?
