He saw all the messed up stuff that happened when he lived and didn't want to go thru it again so he went back to sleep.

The priceless moments at the end is where some people remembered what happened to them before he changed things by dying in bead.

The first time I saw this movie, I had to chuckle at how bad ass Mary McDonnell looks in the end. XD She is perfection.

and especially in this part; the german synchronisation fails. The german speaker doesn`t really get this atmosphere in Donnie`s speech. This dramatic flaire, with Donnie`s hope and his confusion. That`s sad, and i need to watch the english version

@viking81995 I think Donnie Darko hopes he will remember what he did and get's out of bed.

but when he wakes up he thinks it was just a weird dream. "I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep." " I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to". thats what I think the letter means and some info of the filosophy of time travel.
