This desert tease is a good test of the viewers patience and curiosity. As they say, 'all good things come to those who wait'! It is a visual interpretation of Maurice Ravel's timeless classic, 'Bolero'. Groundbreaking and one of the most original compositions ever, 'Bolero' starts reticent and slowly escalates to an explosive crescendo by its finale, the idea behind being slow and intense sexual arousal, as no other composer has ever explored and never since.
'Bolero' always reminds me of voluptuously shaped sand dunes in a desert, dimly lit by the milky way and the half-moon in a cool, clear night. When I listen to the tune, I imagine walking in the desert at night and hearing this melody from a distance, masked by massive dunes in front of me. I then walk towards the sound, climbing up the dunes until I see in the distant lowland, belly dancers lit by a campfire. I walk on, captivated by the sheer sexual intensity of the music and of the dance, and join a small audience sitting by the fire.
We have explored this concept in this edit, by manipulating and animating 5 high resolution images, overlaid with the footage of 3 Vimeo videos. It actually is a storyboard shared with the authors of the video footage, to inspire them to make this movie for our forthcoming, feature length musical, 'Serpent's Sands'™, which is dedicated to the sights and sounds of the Middle East and of the Saharan North Africa
If you are a filmmaker and have easy access to the desert, why not try filming it yourself, post the video on YouTube or Vimeo and send us the link? Please make sure to film in high definition and to backup the raw footage. If we like your video, we will include it in our movie and will share the profits with you!
