I really want to get into playing jazz. I'm only 15 and no practically no music theory :S I've been playing for 4/5 years now. If anyone has got any pointers as to where to start, what to listen to, or even just to explain some basic music theory, please pm me :)

@PhillyGregA I wasn't using an amp, I was plugged directly into a tascam dp-02. Just a little reverb for improved tone.

do you have to improvise over each individual chord in jazz music?

@ArniePyeInTheSky No, you can play the parent scale over any of the chords in a given key. For example, over Am7, can play a C Major scale since Am7 belongs the key of C. While your solo won't necessarily sound like your defining the sound of the chord you're playing over, it's a start and at least it won't sound like you're playing obviously wrong notes. The next step would be to incorporate arpeggios and substitutions to outline the chord changes for a more harmonically specific sound.
