  • @PhillyGregA  I wasn't using an amp, I was plugged directly into a tascam dp-02. Just a little reverb for improved tone.

  • @ArniePyeInTheSky No, you can play the parent scale over any of the chords in a given key. For example, over Am7, can play a C Major scale since Am7 belongs the key of C. While your solo won't necessarily sound like your defining the sound of the chord you're playing over, it's a start and at least it won't sound like you're playing obviously wrong notes. The next step would be to incorporate arpeggios and substitutions to outline the chord changes for a more harmonically specific sound.
