Chinese lawyers 'under surveillance' - 07 Aug 08

While Beijing lobbied to host the Olympics, it promised to improve rights for all its citizens.

But many observers say the population's protections and freedoms have actually shrunk leading up to the games.

And lawyers fighting for clients' rights still find themselves the subjects of intimidation and surveillance.

Yes, earthquake happened in Baotou inner mongolia about 10 years ago, the government acted very quick to that event.

Even if there are 10 million people living in poorest circumstances in China, as long as the majority live in prosperity, like urban people, the chinese government will give a damn about the 10 million. (That is communism)

As the earthquake happened the government was under public pressure (western media, and so on) that's why they had to act. Would they also have acted when there would have been only let's say 5000 deaths?
