Tim Shaw was not a tool. I have seen several interviews with him. He actually detested doing these add. He is simply a Man who knows how to make money and sell anything. As he said to make money you need to either sell something people want or convince people that what you are selling is something they want.
Forget market trends he said.

Tim Shaw is a nice bloke and didn't have an overblown opinion of himself like so many other 2nd rate talking heads in our faces each day on tv. The " but wait there's more!" is one of those lines that's entered into our lexicon and you'd have to have been born yesterday to not get it. I also rang some of these "within the next 15 minutes" places and there wasn't anyone there !!

I always wondered did they always know when one of these ads was going to air on any TV station. (ie the whole ring us in the next 15 minutes)

Well, he didn't actually say that you wouldn't get the carving set if you didn't ring within 15 minutes, just that you WOULD get one if you did.
A typical "tecnically true, but deliberately misleading" sales technique.
