Actually, I'm pretty sure Harry Potter has done better in recent times than Twilight. And you can't blame your teachers and how they taught you Shakespeare for how boring you think everyone should feel it is. In fact, I started Shakespeare on my own, and I love it. Plus, Twilight is played to the lowest common denominator: it's supposed to be enjoyable for the least seasoned person, whereas Shakespeare is something of a higher calibre.

Having studied both English literature and Drama at A level, I really with I had seen this video several years ago. Also I'd like to mention (due to it being hinted at in some previous comments) that not all school students hate Shakespeare. I completely agree that it's the way in which it's taught. If you were study film and watch the same damn scene on repeat then spend days talking about what each little eye movement signified, even your favourite film would get dull fast. The same applies.

Are you aware of how many modern works are based off of Shakespeare? Apparently much more than you can comprehend. Even your precious Twilight praises Romeo & Juliet. Not meant for modern times? She's The Man, 10 Things I Hate About You, Lion King, Moulin Rouge, and numerous others. Not to mention how many words we have today because of him.

I don't know why, but i understand much better the original pronunciation. I mean, im mexican and i'm away from a english speaking environment. Is maybe that the reason?

As a college level English Major who focuses mostly on interpretation and authorial intent, as well as reception, I can say with absolutely no sense of wrongness that VERY far from "all" students of any level of schooling hate Shakespeare, and it is very far from "garbage which is as boring as sin." Shakespeare's work IS entertaining, but I will say you're right, it's not for "modern" times, it's for all times. Art will live on whilst vampire novels will die in a decade, you miserable twat.

How would these accents compare to Shakespeare true speech? It would be interesting to show him, if we had a time machine.
