Here is another gem from my VHS archives. Our gospel Queen Mahalia Jackson as she appeared in 1957 singing on the Nat King Cole show. Listen to that voice so pure and powerful.

My mother used to play Mahalia's Christmas albums and weep at how beautiful her voice was.

Nat King Cole had one of the most melifluous voices.

Mahalia Jackson: Joshua Went (Fit) The Battle Of Jericho. Excellent. Heart Felt. The Singing Mahalia with Imitation Of Life and Natalie Wood is excellent.

If Nat Cole called her the "World's Greatest Gospel Singer" then it's settled. She's the best!

The Nat King Cole Show did received good rating but it was the sponsors the reason why the show was canceled. The show originally aired without a sponsor. NBC paid for the production costs. Many national companies did not want to upset their customers in the South, who did not want to see a black man on TV shown in anything other than a subservient position.
