Thanks! It's a Bug Wasp, '61 model. It has an engine that is very similar looking to the 91-92 or 93 models, but it is originally from an early sixties chainsaw. Not sure of it's top speed, but it cooks along quick enough for what we need :)

Ray! Great stuff, and the whole parking lot deal captures what karting was for guys like me when I was a kid! The track is fun for the vintage karts, but it's kind of a hassle. I'm envious that you have a parking lot that you can get away with running on! My son and I have gotten shooed off of the 4 or 5 parking lots we've tried. Lucky guy!

Yeah, we have it pretty easy over here...that lot is right across the street from my house and we have used for quite a few yrs now with only minimal hassle. When I can't make a race because of work or other life objects (pick one) we gas up the kart and run abuch of oval laps or coned-off road course. There is other vid of me running it a "little faster" :)

BTW...we are running an Mc450 5.5cu saw eng, goes OK huh?!

That looks like a hell of a lot of fun! The engine hardly seems to be turning much but it goes shooting past at a good lick!

I have to go karting again, a bunch of us used to go very regularly, but we've not been in about 3 years now!

Theres a bad tune on that engine itll do 60mph tuned right and 90cc's i have that engine lols

Well those engines with a big carb and nice manifold and a racing fatty pipe and a 53 tooth sprocket on the axle itll do about 70-75mph and rev about 8-9k

What gear ratio are you running? And do you know the approximate RPM's the motor is capable of turning? I've got an old Tecumseh AH47 T-1095C that I've considered using, but don't want to go through the trouble If I can't get it accelerate quickly but still really have some decent top end..

Did the cops come? Back in the day, noise was tolerated. I woke up the neighbors with my Clinton pretty early in the mornings.

Sorry, I should have said not geared right. It's not winding out on that short of a course. Maybe my days on running Macs with tuned pipes messed up my ears : ) .

I raced from '79 to '89 and won a couple of Duffys and got a win in 100 open at Daytona.

Please understand, 74Lilly, this setup is very close to what would have been run when this kart was new in '61. That motor was tuned perfectly, it was running the stock saw carb and had the stock saw bubble muffler. As it sits, this kart does very well at the vintage kart racing events we've been to.

haha wow never though it woulda had a big CC displacement like that but most likely true,sum engines as small as a 2LR bottle can produce 100+ Hp pretty cool either way :)

It's a reed valve engine with a fan for cooling. A little under 100cc. This one is not even close to being tuned right. When they are they can fly.
