The Answering Machine is a four-piece (five-piece when live) band hailing from Manchester in the UK. The band consists of Martin Colclough (vocals, guitar), Pat Fogarty (guitar, backing vocals) Gemma Evans (bass, backing vocals) and Ben Perry (drums, glockenspiel).
Although once backed solely by a drum machine affectionately named Mustafa Beat, these days The Answering Machine's aesthetic fuses electronics with a very organic feel: warm, summery and with a major chord optimism.
Their latest album 'Lifeline' sounds like a band reaching a confident maturity without losing any of the natural pop nous they exhibited back in '06 with their debut 'Oklahoma'.
Enjoy, AllSaints.
