Rare footage of the submarine launched observation autogyro, the Fa-330.
The gyrocopter was folded up and stored in a watertight tube and would be carried underwater by the u-boat.
sorry, low quality vid.

  • I seen this on the History Channel WW2 series. The episode was on submarine warfare in the Atlantic. I was amazed to see a helicopter in the second world war albeit a gyrocopter

  • @Linds12302

Check out my other vids of ww2 helicopters . Not gyrocopters but real working helicopters

  • Very cool footage! Thanks!

  • Thanks, it was from a tiny mpeg I found on the web. It would be nice to find what dvd it came from to see a high res version. Probably something about U-boats I suspect.

  • nice chopper the german thecnology is one of those most wierdest i ever seen but they work good

  • later on they where fitted with 60 PS Walter Mikron. After WW2 they where brought to England and France. Besides the misapprehension Helicopters where not developed first by Sikorsky and Bell. First Serial produced Helicopter was the Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 which later on become godfather of the Chinook

  • @Linds12302 Then check out the Focker-Agaelis FA223

  • Oh, German power very good job.. thanks :D

  • @Afrocanuk - Me-163 needs too much runway for takeoff and landing.

Now, a Bachem Ba-349 - that might just work.

  • I have seen one of these autogyros at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford England. It looked like quite the deathmachine - esp when towed behind a submarine! The pilot was either very brave, or very stupid

  • Cool

  • DID YOU KNOW THAT THİS WHICLE HAD NO ENGİNE.

  • DID YOU KNOW THAT THİS WHICLE HAD NO ENGİNE.

  • @Afrocanuk

Germans weren't into the idea of suicide missions and the 163 wasn't thought of as expendable, so with its 5 min flight time that would guarantee loss of aircraft due to very high landing speed

  • I'm a little supprised a German sub was never designed to launch a Me-163.
